Creating PDFs for commercial print is one of the slickest ways to submit files to your printer.  Submitting a PDF eliminates the need for file collection, speeds up the turnaround times, and eliminates concerns about file compatibility.  Once your digital files have been properly prepared and include all the necessary information, the next step is to generate the PDF.

We use PDFs made from your native files exclusively using Lawton Indigo presets.

Using Lawton Presets

Below are instructions explaining how to quickly set up the Lawton presets, prepare your files and then convert your files to PDFs.  This will allow you to send you”print ready” PDF files to our FTP site trouble-free and conveniently compatible with our automated pre-press systems.

One of the faster, and more reliable methods for generating a PDF is to use the Export selection found in many layout applications.  Using the Export command found on both Adobe InDesign and QuarkXpress to generate your PDF is one of the easiest, most efficient and reliable methods available.  These methods do not use Acrobat Distiller to generate the PDF, and requires fewer steps to complete.

Once loaded, the Lawton Indigo job options preset will appear as an option in the Export Files pull down menu.

Note 1: Add Bleed to your InDesign pages before converting to PDFs by using the InDesign Document Setup Options to add bleed of 0.125″.

Note 2: Changes and revisions must come from your original InDesign files and be converted and sent to Lawton as revised PDF files. For large files, you do not need to send the entire file. You may send only those pages with revisions.

When you’ve generated a PDF, you are ready to upload your file.

Click the secure log-in.

Password:  Lawton

Method 2 – FTP Upload

FTP Site: ftp.lawtonprinting.com  (Use of FTP Client is recommended.)

Building your Database 2017-07-21T23:54:13+00:00

When submitting your database to Lawton Printing Services, we prefer an Excel .csv file or compatible.  Please do not include fields of data that are not needed for the mailing, specifically confidential information.  Ideally, each address element should have its own field.  For example, first name, last name, address 1, address 2, city, state, zip.
